Now For Bali.....

I'm pretty well settled into my new abode which I call my sanctuary. It is my sanctuary. I am no longer in a place that reminds me of the hell years dealing with sick wife, and high up in an apartment block in a secure gated community, I feel really safe here when I want to get away from this 3D world which is often!!!!!

Now just three basic things I need for my abode in order of priority.....

1. Setting up broadband internet connection. As I said I am going with wireless as it is more reliable than landline in Perth. Just need to purchase a modem upfront as part of the deal.

2. A small fridge, "small" being the emphasis here. Just a single person like me does not need a large fridge, and a small fridge will make it easy for me when the time comes to move again. Though I love this place and am on a 12 months lease, I wont be here forever. So a minimum of possessions when it comes time to move, and a SMALL fridge will make it so much easier to be more nomadic.

3. Single bed. I am most likely to just get a camp bed with a foam mattress. Again ease of mobility, and I will easily be able to take it with me when I become more nomadic. But just something that is off the ground, and not an air mattress cos one has to keep it regularly pumped up. Nothing is leak proof, it's just the nature of the beasties. A foam mattress removes the problem of needing to keep it pumped up with air, and it is lighter and easier to deal with than a normal single spring mattress which is thicker and heavier.

So these things, starting with internet, is what I will work on acquiring once I get back from Bali.

Meanwhile the Bali trip...... I once again depart this isolated little city on this Friday the 23rd at around 7:30AM for the 3 1/2 flight up to Bali. It is quicker to Bali than it is to Melbourne or Sydney!!! Once I reach the airport I should have my private transportation waiting for me, I have booked private transportation as opposed to the risky endeavour of catching a taxi which is fraught with dangers in Bali. And so I will be transported via private car with driver to my hotel in Ubud, and if all goes well I should be settled in my Ubud hotel by mid afternoon....... then to work out how I will spend the next nine days!!!!!

I really have no idea how I will get around the area, though the general consensus seems to be to go with a chartered vehicle, a car with one's private driver. I am not sure how I would arrange this but I imagine the hotel will have information on such things. Many of the attractions according to my Google maps are within walking distance from the hotel, up to about 2kms. But much further than that will require transport. I elected not to hire a car, I figure to let a driver deal with the hairy situation of driving on Bali roads - though shouldn't be much different to driving in Perth!!!!! LOL!!!! Apparent there is a volcano nearby, I would like to try to get to that if I could. One could hire a bicycle, but apparently riding a bicycle on Bali roads can be fraught with dangers - like riding in Perth!!!!! LOL!!!! Only that there are no cycleways to escape to in Bali. And Ubud is quite hilly. There's also a few temples around, and to visit them you need to wear a Sarong, which most of the more popular temples has available for hire.

And it turned out I picked the wet season!!!!! December to February is apparently the wet season in Bali. So it will be opposite to Perth where it never rains, but it seems in Bali it rains every day during wet season. Well I did say I enjoy the rain!! It looks like I will get more than my fair dose of rain before returning to drought stricken Perth!!!

The Bali trip is going to be a huge learning curve. This is my first time in a foreign non-western country for any extended period of time, that is, more than just stopovers on flights. My previous travels has been to western English speaking countries like America and the UK where for the most part society is set up pretty well the same as in Australia. Obviously there are differences, but you know what I am saying, society in general is set up much the same. However in Bali everything is going to be so different. For example I don't think you can just go to a convenience store to get dinner for the night. It is more like markets and all very different kinds of food. Society will be so different there, ways of doing things will be so different, it will be like being on another planet - well you can't say I don't have experiences with other planets!!!! I am a galactic traveller having visited many very alien planets. So Bali will be kinda like that!!!

So I am in Bali from December 23 through to January 1........

Meanwhile getting through the next four days at work during the busiest time of the year......

In case I haven't given it before, here's my Bali page.....

Moving House - Settled In My New Abode

Well I am finally here!!!!!!!! In my awesome new abode!!!!! And absolutely loving it!!!!!! But getting here wasn't without it's pain and trauma, such is the story of my life.........

Last Monday I was due to get my car back from repairs hopefully with what would now be virtually a new cooling system!!!!! My main task for the day was to deliver at least one trailer load of my possessions into storage and to go pick up the keys to my new abode which I intended to stay that night. I did not want to stay another night at the house, I wanted to be in my apartment.

However as usual there were delays, and when I still haven't heard from the mechanics by noon, the Virgo me started to panic, and to get online for the public transport journey planner to the real estate office to pick up my keys. Even if I wasn't going to get the car I was determined to be at my apartment even if I needed to ride my bicycle there!!!!!!

Then just as I was about to go out the door to catch public transport, I received the call, my car was ready!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!

So I went to pick up the keys to my new abode, then to deliver my trailer load to storage, looking nervously at the temperature gauge. But it turned out it was behaving perfectly!!!!! Well for $1000 for a virtually new cooling system it had better behave otherwise those on the east coast would have heard my scream from there!!!!!!!

So Monday night I spent my first night in my apartment, and it was AWESOME!!!!! I LOVE this apartment so much!!!! And I love being high up on the 4th level, looking out from my balcony to the rising sun in the mornings.

However more stress to go...... as I have two days to deliver two more trailer loads of possessions, the major items being the double bed and the fridge. The fridge was indeed way too big for my apartment, it would not have even made it up the narrow stairways and it was too big for the elevator. It IS quite a huge fridge thanks to my wife who wanted things big!!!!!! And so Wednesday night, being the day I was due to vacate the house forever,  the fridge was the last item to go.

Nevertheless the stress wasn't over yet. I was due to meet the landlord on Thursday for that fateful final inspection when my past would come back to haunt me aka them walls courtesy of the hospital when they installed mobility devices for my wife and left the damage and mess behind. And well I did attempt to fix it but I had a feeling that my attempt would not satisfy the landlord..... and my feelings are always accurate.

And indeed come Thursday the accuracy of my feelings was confirmed. The main issue was I could not find the paint colors matching the rather ancient coloring of the walls, so the paints did not quite match. So the landlord would now be dealing with the problem, and the cost deducted from my bond. Fair enough, it happens. My marriage to my wife was very karmic on many levels, and I still have karmic debt to be paid.

However what surprised me, totally unrelated to the hospital issue, was the old wallpaper that was peeling. The landlord held me responsible for that and so is going to deduct that from my bond to deal with that. I would have thought that this would come under "fair wear and tear" which tenants are NOT responsible for. Hey it's old wallpaper, it is going to peel, it's the nature of the beasties!!!!! I will definitely be contacting tenants advice on that one, I am almost certain that this would come under fair wear and tear!!!!! OK its fair enough about the hospital damage to the walls, that occurred under my tenancy so I am rightfully responsible though I feel I was hard done by cos I couldn't find the right paints. If I had found the right paints the landlord would have been satisfied. Nevertheless I am responsible. But the peeling wallpaper?????? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!! I am going to be contacting tenant's advice on that before I be signing any bond release forms which would list the deductions.

Despite this issue I was glad to FINALLY be free from that house on Thursday night and I could concentrate on settling into my new apartment.

And so I spent the weekend settling in. I am currently sleeping on the floor on an airbed, I will get a single bed sometimes after I return from Bali. And also a new smaller fridge, perhaps just a bar fridge, I don't need a big one, it is just me there!!!!! And the other major outlay after my Bali trip will be getting the internet set up. I am currently on my portable mobile device which is expensive so having to limit my data. However I have decided to go with home wireless rather than landline. Our landline system in Perth is unreliable, slow as a wet week, and forever dropping out. The wireless mobile network is far more reliable if more expensive. However, there are home based wireless plans available with unlimited or near-unlimited data for about the same price as landline broadband. Snag is however I will have to pay upfront for a wireless modem, several hundreds of dollars. So that will also have to wait until after my Bali trip.

So the first priority after my Bali trip is INTERNET!!!!!! Saving my pennies for a wireless modem, then getting home based wireless set up. I am down to a choice of two telcos NOT Telstra!!!! I am avoiding Telstra like the plague due to the roaming fiasco which I am still paying for!!!!! So just two other telcos to choose from once I have the funds for the modem.

Then after the internet, will be the fridge......... then the bed. I will probably just get a camp bed with a small mattress, it's easier to carry and deal with, especially when the time comes to eventually move out. As much as I love this apartment, I realise I won't be here forever. There will come a time when I will need to move out, and ultimately lead a more nomadic life, travelling around like the wind. That's my ultimate goal. Meanwhile I am in this apartment, and so I want to live as lightly as practical, with a small fridge, and a basic single bed. My biggest expense would be the internet, yes that is life of a nerd!!!!!

Meanwhile..... less than two weeks before I leave for Bali...... my 7:20am flight on Friday December 23, arriving just 3 1/2 hours later in Densapar. It's quicker to go to Bali than it is to go to Sydney!!!!!

Moving House - My Last Night

Well this is my last night here at this old house. Tomorrow I sign the lease and get the keys to my new abode, and so I will be spending my first night there.

OK the saga so far...... Overheating problem with the car. It was towed back to the mechanics on Thursday night for Friday, and they could not emulate the overheating problem. In other words the overheating does not become obvious until you drive it into the ground, such as the previous day with two virtually country trips to my storage unit plus looking at apartments.

However they did suspect a circulation problem, and they thought the most likely culprit would be the radiator. However the car needed to be delivered to a specialist for cooling systems who would have the equipment to thoroughly test the system to figure out exactly where the circulation problem lies. Kinda like visiting the GP with a problem when then refers you onto a specialist, say a heart specialist, for deeper analysis and treatment. So with my permission the car was delivered to the specialist for free as part of my RAC membership. This would mean I would be without a car for the weekend, very NOT good considering I still have trailer loads of furniture to deliver to my storage unit!!!! However I figure they needed to get to the bottom of the problem.

Later that did they called and indeed it was the radiator!! So now the current situation is, I am without a car for this weekend while they install a new radiator, and I should get the car back Monday. And all I can say is, after spending a total of over $1000 for the thermostat, the system flush, and new radiator, it had better not overheat again otherwise I will scream!!!!!! I still have two trailer loads of furniture to deliver to storage!!!!!

As a consequence of being without a car and therefore unable to deliver my items into storage, I began the task of moving the rest of my items to the shed so that the house could be empty for the cleaning crew last Saturday. The two major items being the fridge and bed. The washing machine and dryer were loaded directly onto the trailer ready for the next trip to storage. The block of apartments has shared laundry facilities so I will no longer be needing my washing machine and dryer, so both are going into storage. This leaves mainly the bed and fridge with some smaller items all squeezed into the shed. The shed has a power outlet so I could still plug in the fridge and use it, though now it has only drinks and the Magnum icecream sticks. I am currently getting my meals from the convenience stores, just like when I am on my trips ;)

Then the cleaning crew came to the house on Saturday and ended up spending all day there while I was out and about on my bicycle. I first road to my new abode, well outside of the gated community which my unit is located anyway. I will be within a secure complex that needs a key code to get in. So from my new abode I rode on my intended route to work, and it is a little further, adding about 10 minutes to my journey, but much of it is along the river and nearly all of the journey is on cycleways with next to no interactions with traffic. So I will be just that little bit more fit due to the further distances I be riding. There is a shorter route also on cycleway to work, but it is away from the river, and it involves several road crossings controlled by traffic signals which during peak times you wait forever at. So it is shorter but longer waits at traffic signals. I may take that route on my way home to see exactly how shorter it is and how long it takes with the traffic lights. I do prefer riding by the river as the water is very healing, there is energy healing associated with water.

So I rode to my workplace from my new abode to gauge how far it is and how long it will take. Then from there I rode to the post office to collect my mail and found there was a parcel waiting for me. Fortunately the parcel pickup window is open on Saturday mornings, so I went to collect my parcel to find it is a huge package, it is part of my RC Race Car, and well it barely just fit across the back carrier on my bicycle. Well I didn't want to lug it around for the rest of the day, so I rode to the next train station, so I could catch the train and take the parcel to my storage unit. So I took the train down to Kwinana, and rode my bicycle to my storage unit, still a 30 minutes ride from the station but it sure beats riding my bicycle all the way from the city!!!!

Then I took the train back to a shopping mall not far from my old place. It was noon by then and wasn't really sure when the cleaners would be finished, but they would text me when they are close to finishing so I figure I had better stay within the vicinity of the house, well within 30 minutes ride anyway. I was getting low on energy by then due to all of that bicycle riding so needed some sustenance, so I bought a roll at a shop within the food hall and ate it there. Then I made my way back to the house and set up camp in the park nearby. I could see the house from the park and saw that the cleaners were still there.

So I went to another mall nearby, bought a soda and set up camp in one of the lounges they provided at the mall...... and then after a while, I decided I would ride to the coast which is about 20 minutes along a cycleway. And so after I arrived at the coast I set up camp on one of the bench seats overlooking the ocean. It was getting late in the day by then so figure the cleaners should be finished fairly soon.

And just as I was about to relax by the ocean, I received the text message, the cleaners would be finished within about 30 minutes. So I was on my way back. And I have to say I was pleased with the job. It really is worth paying someone to do all the cleaning, a lot less stressful for me, it certainly beats doing it all on my own and being stressed out and tired. I have enough stress with the car and still needing to transport items into storage before Wednesday when I am due to hand in the keys.

Today I was mostly in the garden, this I elected to do on my own since it was relative simple and I am good at it. Just lawn mowing, edging, a bit of weeding and cleaning the pavement. Nothing much to it with the equipment that I have. So took me no more than about three hours to do it all back and front. So now the house is clean and the garden is now done. The only thing left to do is repairing the damage to the walls left behind by the hospital when they install mobility devices for my wife. I have already filled in the holes in the wall and painted them over in two of the rooms. Due to a lack of car I hadn't gone to the hardware store to attempt to find the right paint for the bedroom. So if I get the car back early enough tomorrow that will be what I will do. Then hopefully this will complete the tasks that needed to be done on the house.

Tomorrow, Monday, I have the day off work. So the timing of my plans hinges on when I be able to lick up the car. What is required to be done is at least one trip to the storage unit to deliver my trailer load of furniture. Also need to visit the real estate office to sign the lease, being a 12 months lease, and collect my keys. Then setting up in my new abode.

What I have decided regarding the bed is to get a single bed. It is much easier to deal with than the double bed I currently have, and well its not like I be needing a double bed anytime soon or at all. I will be single for the rest of my life on this planet, I have no intention of getting into another relationship, there is a reason why I am called the Wandering Wolf. I am a lone wanderer, a nomad. Also the room at my new abode is not very big, perfect size for me but just not very big, so a single bed would be more viable than a double bed. So my current double bed will be taken into storage, and I will get a single bed after I return from Bali. Need to save my pennies for spending money in Bali. You know how it is on overseas trips, you never have enough money!!!! And I already spent too much on that infernal car. The cheaper rent, virtually half of what I am paying now, will help immensely. The air ticket and lodging are already paid for, so it's just spending money.

Meanwhile I am just pretending I am camping out on one of my trips and sleeping on my air bed. Here at my current abode I am now sleeping on my air bed, and so tomorrow night I will simply just take my air bed to my new abode and be sleeping on that until after my Bali trip.

The other task I need to do when I get into my new abode is to measure for the fridge, to figure out if it will fit into my new abode. My current fridge is a large fridge legacy of my wife who wanted a large fridge. Indeed it is so large it didn't even fit into the fridge space at this current house so it has always been located in the dinning area next to the kitchen. So my current abode being a small abode it may not fit in, indeed I may not be able to even get it into my apartment. The fridge barely fits through the front door at this house, and the doors to apartment tends to be more narrow. So I will have to check and measure before I can know if I could take the fridge into my apartment. If not, then the fridge will also be taken into storage and a new smaller fridge being added to my shopping list after the Bali trip. Until then I be just living how I live on my trips, getting my daily sustenance from convenience stores and the occasional fast food joint.

And so my nomadic adventures continues...........

Moving House - New Abode

So much has been happening and very intense. So some quick updates........

NEW ABODE

Yes I finally been approved for my new abode. Yesterday I met with the agent to inspect a cosy little abode, a nice little apartment within a secure complex in Maylands, not far from the river, and just up the street from the railway line and cycleway into the city. So from there I be able to ride my bicycle all the way along the cycleway without contending with traffic, the cycleway goes into the city, then along the river, and finally to my workplace. So virtually no traffic contact on my bicycle ride to work.

The abode itself. Well it is within a secure complex. There is secure parking behind an electronic gate, and entry into the apartment complex is via an electronic key card. My abode itself, just a one bedroom unit with bathroom attached to the bedroom, and a large balcony. It's small, just the right size for me, and quite efficient use of space. The vibes of the area is a lot better. And so last night I submitted the online application form.

Today I was informed I was accepted, and so basically I get to move in on Monday.

THE CAR

However the cooling system on the car began to play up which really threw a spanner into the works cos I need it to transport my surplus items to storage. So yesterday I had it booked in for repairs, and they flushed the cooling system and replaced the thermostat. So today on my day off work I set about taking more trailer loads of surplus items into storage. Alas later that day the cooling system played up again!!!!! Fortunately I just delivered a trailer load of items, but soon after the car began to overheat so much I couldn't drive it.

So I called the RAC who called the tow truck driver, and well thanks to my premium membership, towing and a ride back in the tow truck was for free. So the car was towed back with the trailer, and the RAC booked it back in with the mechanics for tomorrow with a giant WTF!!!!!!!! And it turned out, the towing\delivery to the mechanics was also for free. So tomorrow I will learn of what's in hell's name was going on!!!!! grrrrrrrrrr......

This really messed up my plans. The cleaners are due in on Saturday, and with another whole day at the mechanics, I will now have no time to transport the remaining furniture to the storage unit. I have at least two more trailer loads to go, and the house needs to be empty by Saturday so the cleaners could come and do their job.

Well I could temporarily locate the remaining items to the back shed if need be, depending on what the mechanics says about the car and how soon they be able to rectify the problem. And well I am in my current house until Wednesday, so if worse come to worse, I could always hire a small truck to move my remaining items. But this really messed things up for me!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr..........

MY TRIP

Oh yes this nomadic soul is going on yet another trip. This time to Bali, or more specifically, the Ubud region of Bali said to be the cultural center of Bali and is where the hippies tends to go, it's an hour north of the main city. There are a lot of temples and sacred sites in that region, and it is where the Dragon Line traverses, the same Dragon Line that runs through Glastonbury, and it also runs through Peru and Uluru. I am hoping to go to Peru next year ;)

Anyway my Bali trip will be from December 23 to January 1, basically my Xmas vacation period from work. And my page for this trip is.......

MY UBUD BALI TRIP

So once again I be spending Xmas and New Year out of Perth. Last year it was New Zealand, this year it is Bali. But I won't be meeting anyone, I will be on my lonesome, like a  personal pilgrimage journey, doing my energy works along the Dragon Line in the region, visiting these sacred sites, these high energy vortex sites, lots of ET activity!!!!!!

So that was just a brief summary of what is going on.............
